Non-residents disposing of UK residential property

From 6 Apr 2015, CGT(capital gains tax) was extended to non-resident individuals(the rate of tax is 18% or 28%). A non-resident owning UK residential property who makes a disposal of that property must disclose the transaction to HMRC within 30 days of the “Completion” date, no matter whether there is a loss, a gain or no gain no loss.

In this 30-day deadline, an advance self assessment needs to be filed and taxes needs to be paid, unless the non-resident is already in self assessment system.

Non-resident companies are affected by this rule as well.
